What is Level 4 Traceability?
Level 4 Traceability
Level 4 Traceability (L4) focuses on operational traceability across the supply chain, enabling organizations to track products at the batch, lot, or case level from production to distribution and retail.
According to GS1, effective traceability systems rely on standardized identification, data capture, and data sharing to ensure product visibility across supply chain partners. L4 traceability builds on these principles by integrating real-time operational data with enterprise systems such as ERP, WMS, and distribution platforms.
While lower traceability levels often focus on internal record-keeping, L4 ensures cross-functional and cross-location visibility, providing a clear picture of product movement within and between facilities.
